Overview

An insight into what we do, our role as a regulatory body and our grand vision for Singapore’s media industries.

The Media Development Authority (MDA) was formed on 1 January 2003 by the merger of Singapore Broadcasting Authority, the Films and Publications Department and the Singapore Film Commission, to champion the development of a vibrant media sector in Singapore: one that nurtures homegrown media enterprises and attracts direct foreign investment for economic growth, new jobs and greater economic dynamism.

With the proliferation of media content and different delivery platforms, it has become increasingly important to involve the industry and the public in formulating regulation. Co-regulation – or joint regulation – allows industry players to give their inputs and feedback.

Filmmakers, scriptwriters, animators and other media professionals create media content. But when it comes to shaping the nation’s media landscape, media professionals and companies are not solely responsible. Everyone uses and consumes media in some way – whether you watch a movie, read a book or play a video game

Mediapolis @ one-north is set to be Singapore’s first digital media hub where creative talents live, work and play in a synergistic environment
