Singapore is tapping into the tremendous potential of Interactive Digital Media (IDM) to enhance its competitive edge. Overseeing the efforts in this area is the multi-agency IDM Research and Development Programme Office (IDMPO) hosted within MDA.

From producing one film in 1991, four in 1998, to 32 in 2008, the Singapore film scene has flourished of late and is proving to be a fertile ground for developing exportable media content.

Over the last few years, the games industry in Singapore has witnessed encouraging growth. Today, the industry comprises both world-class and homegrown game development companies. Made-by-Singapore games have also received accolades and gained traction.

Singapore is home to more than 100 music companies, societies and schools. Among its musical exports are highly sought-after singers with regional appeal such as Stefanie Sun, JJ Lin, Tanya Chua as well as songwriters, lyricists and producers such as Dick Lee, Liang Wern Fook and Lee Wei Song.

Strategically located within the Asia Pacific, Singapore is the gateway to the fastest growing region for publishing. Well-known international publishers, together with homegrown companies, are contributing to the thriving publishing landscape in Singapore.

Since the first radio station was launched in Singapore in 1936, the radio scene has evolved. It is transitioning from analogue to digitised modes of transmission, enabling listeners to receive crystal clear quality sound. These days, listeners can even tune in to radio stations via the Internet.

The rise of the export of Made-by-Singapore television content is a result of a successful strategy to co-produce programmes with international partners. A focus on animation and factual programmes has also reaped rewards.
