A TV (Residential) Licence is required if you operate or have, on any premise owned or occupied by you, TV sets or any equipment that is capable of receiving broadcasting services.

Types of Licences

TV (Residential) Licence

Who is this for?

For any individual who operates or has, on any premise owned or occupied by him, TV sets or any equipment that is capable of receiving broadcasting services.

In Singapore, public service programmes are funded through the annual TV and Vehicle Radio Licence fees of $110 and $27 respectively. These fees are essential in helping with the production of public service programmes as they are less commercially viable and require funding support. With funding, Singaporeans will get to enjoy a wider range of TV and radio programmes that not only entertain but also serve to inform and educate.

Funded programmes on TV include current affairs, info-education, culture, minority language and children's programmes. The MDA also funds minority programmes on radio stations Oli 96.8FM, Warna 94.2FM and Ria 89.7FM. Dialect news is also supported on Capital Radio 95.8FM as well as news programmes on NewsRadio 93.8FM.

How to Apply

The TV Licence is valid for a calendar year, from 1 January to 31 December and is renewable on a yearly basis thereafter.

For new TV Licences that are applied for in any part of the year after 1 January, the licence fee payable will be pro-rated from the date of application to 31 December.

If the TV Licence is taken up between 1 November and 31 December, the licence fee payable will be pro-rated to 31 December of the following year – ie. it will be inclusive of the following year's licence fee as well. This is to minimise the inconvenience to licence applicants.
