Sneak Peek into Fighting Spiders 2

The nostalgic drama will return with more adventure and romance.

YES, Fighting Spiders will be back in April 2010 for a second season, with new characters, new plot twists and an exciting new adventure.

Set in Singapore in the 1960s, the first season of Fighting Spiders is a coming-of-age story featuring three schoolboys – Soon Lee (Edwin Goh), Charlie (Liang Shijie Jason) and Peter (Frederick Fielding) – whose friendship is tested on their quest to find the King Spider to challenge Ah Huat, the bully.

Fighting Spiders is a Public Service Broadcast (PSB) programme. PSB programmes:
  • are non-commercial in nature;
  • reflect Singaporeans’ lifestyle, history and culture; and
  • are funded with the annual Radio and TV licence fees.

Executive producer and scriptwriter Ngin Chiang Meng revealed that a new villain, a girl named Siew Mai, will raise havoc in the second season. He said: "She is more evil than the previous villain Ah Huat."

There will also be a new boy in the cast – a Malay boy trained in the martial art of silat. More intriguingly, the lovable Charlie will fall in love for the first time.

Added Chiang Meng: "Simon, the evil doctor from Season One, will return to plot his revenge, the love triangle between Tony, Susie and Annie will simmer, and the boys will embark on a new adventure. This time, in a bid to save their kampong, they will be searching for a lost map, which will lead them to a treasure of red rubies!"

For Chiang Meng, who was also involved in the creation of the earlier hit drama series Growing Up, Fighting Spiders is not just a story about Singapore in the 1960s.

"Fighting Spiders is an ode to innocence, romance and friendship," he said. "It has given me an appreciation of true friendship and the simple things in life. It has also allowed me to feel like a kid, to celebrate romance and the pure joy of first love."

Nostalgia and simplicity struck a chord with Singapore viewers both young and old. Fans raved about the show on numerous websites, blogs and discussion boards. The Fighting Spiders Facebook group, which has more than 1,600 members, was flooded with positive comments after every episode.
